I heard about Greyland Games from my former teacher and colleague later on in Tredu. Making games as a hobby in Auger Games was indeed fun, but I never thought of the gaming industry as a likely career due to competition. However, I saw the opportunity to try out the startup company environment that differs hugely from my previous position at Alma Media. Of course, I was also at some level interested in entrepreneurship but I had this one rule to not start it alone. Greyland Games as a startup company was instead a perfect fit in this aspect also.
After I learned that Greyland Games has a mostly English speaking community I got cold feet, but the application was already sent. I probably would not have applied if I knew. However, thanks to clear pronunciation and understandable word choices from Katerina, the discussion just flowed and the matter of language disappeared. This definitely helped me to gain practice with spoken language and gain more confidence.
At first I thought about starting in a designer role like the previous one, but soon noticed that in startups the roles can be extremely wide, which suits a generalist like me better. Instead of just designing things, I become more like a game/web developer while implementing everything. After all, it has been an exciting few months and I cannot wait to see where this ends up!
