Katerina during a filming session, December 2024.
2024 was an amazing year for Greyland Games, in which we created two new games, and forged several new contacts. We officially established ourselves as a game studio, and spread our focus into more areas of education. As we begin this new and exciting year in 2025, Katerina wishes to reflect on the journey so far.
The year 2025 starts year 4 on our startup journey to bring you a tool that will help you learn a second language you need for your job. We started with solving our own issue of unemployment and how to get a job in a foreign country, where learning the language takes a lot of time.
Over the last three years we worked on different versions and slowly discovered that our game resonates with a lot of people that are in the same situations we are – new to the country, taking long to learn the language, looking for a job, struggling. For many people, the situation has not changed, but we are progressing towards our goal: to deliver a learning tool that helps engage adult learners, making language learning a less stressful, but also quality, result.
With our lessons for people who work in the hospitality industry, we look to get more customers to further prove our concept. We are also talking with institutions on how integration programs can utilize our game in helping their students and participants, and further develop with live testers.
Last year we also dove into a very different genre, maths.
My daughter was struggling with the multiplication tables, and we spent a lot of time memorizing and repeating, only to start all over again when a new table was added. It felt a bit hopeless to keep doing the same exercises over and over again, and to see her struggle, still.
One day I got inspiration from a card game and adapted it to her interests and maths subject. I created the first version from materials we had at home: paper, glitter and my drawings.
Now we have a mobile version, and we are testing it with her school. We are hoping to test with a few classes and fine-tune the game strategy and mechanics to help kids with the basics, and build a stepping stone for further maths exploration.
This year will be all about strengthening our base, a proper structure for our business, growth, and of course, as always, our end users.
I welcome you to join our journey, help us test and further develop our tools, or share our tools with someone you think might benefit from it.
And on behalf of the whole team at Greyland Games, I wish you a very successful, fulfilling and happy new year in 2025.
