Team Member Story: Iulia

Hi! This is Iulia. I was born and raised in Romania, although I come from a multicultural background: Romanian-Hungarian-German. I initially came to Finland in 2019 to study engineering, but only started calling it my home around 2021/2022 once I met my Finnish husband.

I graduated late 2022 and discovered Greyland Games a couple of months afterwards. I was looking for opportunities in the serious games industry and Kat & Fari’s idea resonated with me a lot, coming from a multilingual family myself and struggling to learn Finnish.

I discovered, even in myself, that I had a much easier time learning the language once I was thrown directly into the action at my part-time job in Turku. It was a no-brainer that I wanted to be involved in creating a language-learning job simulation app! 🙂

I started out as an artist, working on the nurse simulation prototype, our first and oldest project. I also occasionally program and enjoy working in game engines. Lately, I have been taking on a more production-oriented role, as well as filling in blanks when needed, supporting both the visual and technical side of our operations.

This is due to my studies continuing onto new realms: neuroscience, where a part of my focus is on speech-language pathology and the neuroscience of language acquisition. I soon hope to contribute to our project with more than just production, but also with research, and novel methods of learning and teaching.

It’s been super fun to see Greyland evolve, since I was here for so long I collaborated with multiple teams. I am currently pleasantly impressed with Aki’s technical skills and Bianca’s art and have been very happy supporting them. I’m excited to see how our project continues in the future!
